Mt. Saint Helens 2004

After over a decade of little noticeable activity, Mt. Saint Helens came back to life in October 2004.  Over the next few years steam, smoke, and magma escaped from the mountain’s crater (created during the historic May 1980 eruption) and created a new lava dome.
